"Why are wild salmon and farmed salmon different colours?"
The salmon we farm is Atlantic salmon - a different species from the five wild Pacific salmon species we have in BC, and the flesh colour differs between species.
Additionally, wild and farm-raised salmon require carotenoids, which are antioxidants and precursors of vitamin A, for healthy growth and reproduction. Carotenoids are consumed in different quantifies and from different sources, which can also cause salmon to differ in colour.
