Frequently Asked Questions
"How do you know if fish escape from a fish farm?"
Escape of farm-raised salmon is now rare in British Columbia. We have made a number of improvements including better staff training, investment in state of the art infrastructure (pens, ROVs, anchors, netting), strict regulation of net strength, and improved husbandry and handling techniquesWe use cameras inside the pens and regular diver checks to monitor our salmon and ensure they are safely contained within the pen. If a fish escapes from a farm, it is reported to the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO).
